Theater of the Young Spectator named after A.A.Bryantsev

Pioneer Square, d.1

About the company:

The theater of young spectators was born on February 23, 1922 and began its activity with the production of the play "Humpback Horse". Until 1962, it was located in the building of the Tenishevsky School on Mokhovaya Street, 35. Its founder and permanent leader for 40 years was A.A. Bryantsev. The children's theater was created as a "special purpose theater", which would be interesting for children, adolescents, and young people. Ideas of kindness, loyalty, nobility are the main ideas of the performances created by Bryantsev. The names of famous actors of St. Petersburg are associated with the theater.

In 1962, the theater moved to a new building, built on the site of the former Semyonovsky parade ground. A group of architects headed by A.V. Zhuk worked on the project. The building, extremely simple in architectural design, is decorated from the main facade with pylons, two mosaic panels and two sculptural groups on either side of the high staircase leading to the entrance to the theater.

The interior of the theater is more interesting. The auditorium is designed for 1000 seats, located in an amphitheater around the stage. All the rooms of the theater are well interconnected. The arc of the spacious lower foyer is completed on both sides by stairs leading to the foyer of the upper tier. The outer glass wall of the foyer visually connects the inner space of the building with the outer square surrounding the theater building. The two winter gardens of the upper foyer reinforce this impression.

The building of the theater faces the main facade to the Country Avenue and is surrounded by a square in which you can stumble upon a huge five-ton forged rose, a forged chair with a lamp on the back and other modern sculptures. In front of the theater in 1959, a monument to A.S. Griboyedov by sculptor V.V. Lishev was opened.
