I invite you to take a fascinating journey to the mysterious and beautiful Gatchina. This is a place I fell in love with at first sight, and always with great pleasure come here alone and with guests. It gives peace, peace, a sense of harmony. You will see this for yourself while walking through the main halls of the Grand Palace and along the alleys of the landscape park.

Gatchina ensemble was born thanks to Catherine II, who gave a huge territory to his favorite Grigory Orlov. Architect Antonio Rinaldi embodied Orlov’s desire for a summer hunting residence in life, and garden masters created one of the first and, without a doubt, the best landscape parks in Russia.

After the death of Count Orlov, Catherine II gave Gatchina to her son Paul. With his accession to the throne, Gatchina became the imperial residence. Paul I put a lot of energy and soul into his beloved patrimony, transformed it. From a trip to Europe he brought many ideas, at his command, the corners of the park and the halls of the palace turned into original souvenirs - reminders of the beloved French architecture.

The history of Gatchina is connected with the name of Alexander III. The emperor and his family spent 13 years here, and during this period the city became the de facto capital of the Russian Empire. Ministers and the court came to Gatchina with reports and official events. Gatchina becomes the most comfortable small city in Europe. The emperor's children - the eldest son, also the future emperor, Nicholas II, and daughter Olga left touching memories of their childhood spent in the Gatchina Palace. And since the family was fascinated by photography, there are still quite a few pictures taken in the places where we will be walking.
