Uglich

Uglich

Description:

I invite you to an excursion to Uglich, an ancient Russian city, which is rightfully included in the list of the Golden Ring of Russia. The city was founded in the distant 937 and has preserved a huge number of historical sights and architectural monuments. The wide spill of the reservoir, the Kremlin, monasteries and churches reflected in the water, merchant and noble mansions, the working fire tower on the central street - even today Uglich looks like in paintings of the 18-19 centuries.

We will begin the tour with the Uglich Kremlin, where in 1591 Tsarevich Dmitry was killed and where the Rurik dynasty ended. Today, Uglich is the only city in the world, whose coat of arms depicts a boy with a knife in his hand. In memory of this event, the church of Demetrius “on blood” was built here, which is the hallmark of the city. You can also visit the princely chambers of the 15th century and the Transfiguration Cathedral, whose paintings are more reminiscent of Italian and Florentine temples.

After the Kremlin, we will see and visit the ancient city monasteries - Resurrection, Epiphany and Alexeyevsky, where Uglisk shrines, such as the icon "Inextinguishable Candle" and others, are still preserved. In addition, you will see and, if possible, also be able to visit the Kazan Church, the Church of Flora and Laurus, the Church of Tsarevich Dmitry “on the field”, the Korsun Church.

Also, if you wish, you can visit the Uglich museums: the Museum of Hydropower, the Museum of Vodka, the Museum of Myths and Superstitions, the Museum of Prison Art.
