Abraham Lincoln's birthday

Description:

Abraham Lincoln

Until the mid-70s, February 12 was the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Now the holiday is celebrated together with the birthday of George Washington, the first president, on the third Monday in February, and is called Presidents Day. To this day, many Americans do not forget the tradition of February 12.

Abraham Lincoln, whose face can be seen on dollars and whose name the car company is named, holds a special place among the world’s prominent politicians. The Homestead Act (homestead: the law granted every American citizen the right to receive a piece of land that eventually passed into ownership) and the abolition of slavery is an outstanding contribution to the development of true individual freedom.

Lincoln understood and loved his people, and the American people responded with universal support. On November 8, 1864, he was elected president for a second term.

His life ended tragically. He was shot in the head at the Ford Theatre.

A few years after the death of Abraham Lincoln, a memorial to the president was erected in Washington. And every year, on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, a wreath is laid here.

Evaluating the merits of Lincoln, the great Russian writer L.N. Tolstoy said: "He was what Beethoven was in music, Dante in poetry, Raphael in painting, Christ in the philosophy of life."
