What to see in Kampala

Kampala is the dynamic capital of Uganda, spread out on the hills near the shore of Lake Victoria. The city combines colonial history and modern African energy: there is a lot of trade in the markets, sounds a variety of music and lives a diverse culture of the people of the country. The atmosphere of Kampala is warm and hospitable, and walks through narrow streets and panoramic views from the hills give a feeling of real discovery.

There are many man-made attractions in the city that are worth seeing: the sacred tombs of Kasubi (Kasubi Tombs) – a World Heritage Site, the National Museum of Uganda with ethnographic and archaeological collections, the majestic Gaddafi mosque on top of one of the hills and the old cathedrals of Namirembe and Rubag. The University of Makerere with its historic buildings and bustling markets such as Owino create a unique urban landscape. The natural attractions around the city are no less impressive: the coast of Lake Victoria offers promenades and calm beaches, botanical gardens and green hills give the opportunity to retire with nature right within the city limits. Among the famous natural corners of Uganda, the Queen Elizabeth National Park is mentioned - one of the most popular natural areas of the country, covering almost 2,000 km2, where you can go on a safari as you wish to observe wildlife and the famous forest lions in the Ishasha district.
