Independence Day of Abkhazia

Description:

Independence Day
August 26, 2008 entered the modern world history as the day of the Republic of Abkhazia gaining long-awaited independence, when historical justice finally triumphed.

At the beginning of the fourth hour on August 26, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced the signing of a decree recognizing the independence of Abkhazia. The first thing Sukhum did when he heard the news of the recognition stopped working. The people rushed to Freedom Square.

Freedom Square is a complex of three Soviet administrative buildings destroyed in the war of 1992-1993 with a pedestal from the monument to Lenin. The monument itself was demolished long ago. But according to tradition, it is here that rallies are gathered, including such spontaneous ones. President Bagapsh also came to the square to congratulate the people. Independence, according to the head of state, is the result of the work of the entire people of Abkhazia.
