Kurbannoihua

Description:

The Day of Sacrifice begins in the morning.
In Abkhazia, the Muslim Festival of Sacrifice is celebrated (the holiday of Kurban Bayram). Here the holiday has its name – Kurbannihua. This day in Abkhazia is festive and non-working.

In the Qur’an, the Qur’an says, “Ibrahim (Abraham) was prepared to sacrifice one of his sons, but Allah stopped the knife brought over the man.” God’s glory was given to the lamb that was nearby.

The holiday embodies the highest spiritual values inherent in true Muslims. On this day, they sing the dead, perform the ritual of sacrifice, on the days of the holiday they try to make gifts. Every year, Muslim believers in Abkhazia slaughter livestock, and distribute meat to kindergartens, boarding schools, those in need.

The Muslims of Abkhazia are Sunnis. Today, about 200 people live in Islam.

Celebrations on the occasion of the main Muslim holiday last three days and include prayers and sermons, visits to the graves of relatives, trips to relatives and friends. For the holiday of Kurbannihua, Muslims prepare in advance.

The day of sacrifice begins in the morning. Muslims, having performed full ablution and wearing neat clothes, pray in the mosque, recite the Quran, listen to the sermon of the Imam. After the festive prayer, they begin a sacrificial rite. Cooked meat is eaten at a common meal, distributed to neighbors who are poor.
