International Women's Day

March 8One of the most beautiful holidays of spring on March 8, celebrated all over the world. In Abkhazia, this holiday is celebrated with befitting pomp... and with a certain amount of bitterness for the fact that difficult trials fell too heavy on the fragile women’s shoulders.

Abkhaz women had a difficult share, many of them became the main breadwinners of their families. When the entire male population was excluded from economic processes because of the blockade declared by Abkhazia after the war with Georgia, women did not let the country die.

By making enormous efforts, often to the detriment of their own health, they helped to survive the most difficult years. They became the basis of the economic survival of the republic. International Women’s Day is another great occasion to express admiration for the strength and patience of Abkhazian women.
