Gagra

VI century Temple P. Tsandripsh

Tsandripsh, Gagra district, Abkhazia

Description:

The temple located in the village of Tsandripsh is one of the oldest temples. It was founded in the sixth century. It was built by skilled craftsmen of that time. This is confirmed by the architectural elements and good acoustics in the temple. The construction of the temple was made in the form of a three-oil basilica. In this temple rest the remains of the deceased saints.

The temple was severely destroyed in 1576, but the ruins have survived to this day. Repeated attempts to restore the temple did not lead to the completion of the work. Currently, the authorities of Abkhazia cannot allocate money for the restoration of an ancient Christian building.

Tsandripsh is a village on the Black Sea coast. The temple is in its center. To see it - you need to get to the village of Tsandripsh, then turn the sign at the bridge. You will have to walk the whole village to get on the path leading up to the temple.
