River Reprua

reprua river, Gagra, Abkhazia

Description:

The shortest river Reprua or, as it is called, the river-recordsman flows in the country of Abkhazia and is saturated with water of the deepest cave in the world - Krubera-Voronea.

It is said that the river is one of the harshest rivers on the shores of the Black Sea of the Caucasus, because its temperature reaches only 11 degrees Celsius all year round. The river is 18 meters long and 10 meters wide.

The name of the river translates as “submarine water”. There has never been a time when Reprois has dried up completely. This river is full of life. There are different fish, zooplankton and there are algae, called an underwater garden.

Honored Professors of Sciences of Abkhazia will create an environmental passport of the river Reprua and submit an application to the Guinness Book of Records in order to prove and consolidate that Reprua is the shortest river in the world.

According to the Abkhazian legend, the Reprua River originated from the roar of three twin sisters who lived in underground caves on the shore. The other side defeated the natives, including their brother, and blocked the exit from the cave outside, in which the losers remained. The sisters guessed that the brother was killed at that moment, and their grief was so disappointing that three rivers appeared from their tears - Bagerepsta, Anihamets and Reprua.

The opportunity to reach the river is certainly there. You can find yourself in that place if you walk along the beach from the health resort "Moscow" or walk to the shore of the sea from the bridge, stopping about half a kilometer to the Gagra sign.
