Bird Falls
Abkhazia, Gagra, Lake Ritsa, Bzyb Gorge
Description:
In Abkhazia, near the famous alpine lake Ritsa, slightly above the Bzyb River, there is a waterfall called "Bird". This associative name has two explanations:
1. The waterfall is so high that its highest point is equal to the height at which birds fly.
2. The name "Bird" is not complete, its full name is "Bird's Beak", after the name of the rock, which is located in the center of the waterfall. The rock can be perfectly seen, it is clearly visible from the observation deck.
An exciting picturesque picture opens here: a water flurry of the waterfall "Bird" from above falls to the foot, on stones and logs, abundantly overgrown with moss. The background is a green forest with giant trees.
The water in the waterfall is clean, transparent and, of course, very cold, with a small content of minerals. You can drink it and take it with you.
The fullness of the “Bird” depends on the time of year. It is full in the spring and also when it rains.
You should not get to the waterfall very close, because it is not safe - stones can break off and tree branches fall, and its power is such that there is a high probability of getting into the whirlpool. But you can continue the tourist tradition - near the "Bird" to tie ribbons, and make a wish.
To get to the waterfall "Bird" you should drive from the resort of Gagra about 15 km to the Ritsinsky turn. Then about 40 km along the Bzyb River.
