Gagra

Gagripsh Restaurant

opposite the Seaside Park

About the company:

Opposite the famous Seaside Park in Gagra is no less famous restaurant "Gagripsh" - a symbol of the birth of Gagra as a world resort. This legendary place is worth visiting not only for culinary, but also for the most educational purposes.

The restaurant building was built of Norwegian pine by order of Prince A.P. Oldenburg, in disassembled form brought to Gagra from the World Exhibition in Paris in 1902, and then assembled without a single nail. On the stage of “Gagripsha” was Fedor Chaliapin, here were Nicholas II, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, Maxim Gorky and Ivan Bunin. At the beginning of the last century, Gagra was one of the most fashionable resorts, "Russian Monte Carlo", and "Gagripsh" - a place of high-society parties and balls - it was not for nothing that the solemn opening of the Gagra resort took place here on January 9, 1903.

The appearance and interiors of the restaurant, despite numerous reconstructions, have remained almost unchanged until now and perfectly convey the atmosphere of the early twentieth century. There are often performances of Abkhazian folklore ensembles on the stage, mechanical clocks are still working, which are still started by hand, and a wonderful view of Gagra opens from the balcony. That is why people who know it say: “Who has not been to Gagripsha, he has not seen Gagra.”
