Description:
Iverskaya mountain in the resort village of New Athos is a famous landmark of Abkhazia. The mountain is 344 meters high. From the top of the mountain, an overview of the Black Sea coast from Pitsunda to Sukhum opens. The serpentine stone road leading to the top of the mountain is paved with monks. It'll take about an hour all the way. Along the road are the most beautiful cypresses, chapel buildings, the temple of Simon Cananite. There are also hotels and a cable car.
To this day, the ruins of the ancient Anakopian fortress, which is located on the very top of the mountain, have survived. This is a large ancient defensive structure, known for its inaccessibility in the fourth century.
Hence the second name of the mountain - Anakopia. The road to the mountain starts in the cave complex and then goes up. The road has a rather steep climb, so it is better to go in comfortable sports shoes. You can get there by constantly running tour buses. Two hundred rubles.
