Garden of stones

Abkhazia, New Athos, Psyrtskha River

Description:

The Garden of Stones is a historical trail of New Athos in Abkhazia, paved with wild stone along the bank of the river, then a snake stretches under the mountain. After climbing dozens of stone steps, you can get into a small cave in the gorge of the Psyrtskha River, the cell of the Apostle Simon Cananite, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ, who lived here for about two years.

The bank of the Psyrtskha River is completely covered with huge white stones. At the bottom of the river, at the frontal place, you can see stones with a reddish tint. According to legend, this is the indelible blood of the holy Apostle, and pilgrims still consider these stones sacred. At the foot of the mountain, between the stones, grow very beautiful rare exotic plants. This is why the Garden of Stones has such a name. Here you can also see stone turtles of mysterious origin and a mountain spring, in which it is pleasant to wash in the morning. The origin of the Garden of Stones is unknown and is considered a natural phenomenon.
