Abrskila Cave

otap village, Ochamchira, Abkhazia

Description:

On the outskirts of the village of Otap, 70 km from Sukhum, there is a cave Abrskila, impressive for its extraordinary beauty and luxury. It belongs to stalactite caves of a rare gallery type, currently explored more than 2 km in depth, and this is not the limit. At the bottom of Abrskila there is a river, which in Abkhazia is called “Achki tyzgo”. Locals believe that in the past, the cave and the mountain were known as a refuge of many evil spirits. Currently, it is equipped for inspection - there is a tourist route about 800 m long, which covers four huge halls.

The entrance to the cave has the shape of a regular semicircular arch. The level of the underground river throughout the route constantly fluctuates, sometimes reaching up to the waist of a person. The temperature of its water on average reaches +14 ° C. The halls and galleries of the cave are very beautiful, they are decorated with stalagmites, stalactites and bizarre stalagnates. Near the cave of Abrskila is a quadrangular dilapidated watchtower with the remains of ancient fortress walls.
