Kabul

Kabul River

Kabul, Afghanistan

Description:

The Kabul River is the main river in eastern Afghanistan. Its length reaches 460 kilometers, and the area of the basin is 75.000 square kilometers. The origins of the river originate on the southern slope of the Hindu Kush. Its main tributary is the Panjsher River. Further, the Kabul River flows through Peshawar, Kabul and Jalalabad.

In winter, the water tributary is very small, but in summer the river is replenished by melting glaciers. If the amount of water is not enough, the river partially dries up. The largest influx is observed in July. More than 120 kilometers of the river is used for irrigation of adjacent lands. The river also has three tributaries. The largest tributary of the Kabul River is the Kunar River. Despite the Kunar tributary, the Kabul River carries much more water.
