Herat International Airport

Description:

Herat is one of the largest international airports in Afghanistan, ranking third in terms of the number of passengers served. Herat is located in the west of the country, ten kilometers south of the city of the same name.

Herat International Airport was built in the fifties of the XX century by American engineers. The airport has a single runway that stretches for two and a half kilometers and is capable of receiving even the highest-tonnage aircraft. During the Afghan war, Soviet bombers were based in Herat, and today the airport is actively used by NATO troops. For the past ten years, Herat has mainly served transport and military aircraft, but in 2011 a new passenger terminal was added to it, and the airport received international status.

Today, flights depart from Herat to Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries of the world. The airport is constantly developing and modernizing, introducing modern technologies and equipment.
