Berat Fortress
At the top of a hill in the center of Berat
Description:
Berata Fortress (Albania) is an urban wooden fortification founded almost 2.5 thousand years ago. Defensive towers of stone adorned the top of the hill in the XIII century, but they could not resist the onslaught of the Turkish troops in 1417. The ancient fortress was supplemented by the Turks with a magnificent mosque.
The ancient fortress has undergone numerous changes, so little remains of the original structure. However, this place is still revered by Albanian newlyweds, who hold theatrical wedding ceremonies here. Coordinates of the fortress: 40.70858800 and 19.94539600.
