Durres Archaeological Museum
taulantzia street, Durres 2000, Albania
About the company:
The Archaeological Museum was opened in 1951 for visitors who can view extensive collections of artifacts from the Greek, Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Among the artifacts are Roman funeral steles, stone sarcophagi, mosaics, collections of miniature busts of Venus and other valuable items found during excavations in the city and other neighboring cities. By the way, the busts of Venus are in a separate room, because not for nothing before the city was a place of worship of this goddess. The museum is the largest archaeological museum in Albania.
In 2010, the museum was completely reconstructed. Despite the importance of archaeological sites, the museum is not an independent institution and is administered by the Durres Regional Monument Protection Authority.
The museum is open daily except Sunday and Monday from 9 am to 3 pm.
