Church of Sant Pere Martier
Andorra, community of Escaldes-Engordan
Description:
The Church of St. Peret Martyr is located in the Principality of Andorra, in the community of Escaldes-Andorgan and was built in 1956-1981 in an area famous for its textile industry. The author of the project of the church was the famous architect Joseph Danesai.
The main altar of the church was created with the funds of the local association of weavers. The main material for the building was granite, and some decor elements are made of ceramics. Decorating the facade of the sculpture belong to the authorship of Sergi Mas. The main architectural dominant of the church is the square bell tower, which houses three bells named Maria, Anna and Jacob. The bells were consecrated in 1981 by Bishop Joan Marti Alanis.
The architecture of the church, despite its rather late construction, perfectly harmonizes with the surrounding districts of historical buildings. The church is one of the main tourist attractions of the town of Escaldes, located in close proximity to the capital of this small state, the city of Andorra la Vella.
