Andorra la Vella

Place de la Poble

plaza la Poble, Andorra la Vella, Andorra

Description:

For several centuries, poetic competitions of troubadours, wandering poets, designed to “find” poems in the surrounding world, have been held here. The tradition is derived from the provençal wandering poets of the south of France. Another colorful tradition is street performances without words, only the language of facial expressions. Numerous spectators from the sidewalks, and locals from the balconies of the houses watch the performance and appreciate the skill of the actors with applause.

The main decoration of the Plaza la Poble is a sculptural group of peasants dancing the folk dance of the contrapas. In addition to the national symbols, the square is decorated with such city attractions as the Andorran Music Academy and the Main Theatre of the State. And next to the square is the largest in the capital (and in the country) shopping center - Pirenes, adjacent to the best hotel in the country - Park Hotel.

Plaza La Poble is a favorite meeting place for locals in the evening.
