Day of Pure Understanding

Description:

This doctrine was proclaimed as a dogma on December 8, 1854 by Pope Pius IX.
It is one of the great feasts celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church. According to the Catholic doctrine, the Virgin Mary, by the special grace of God, at the moment of her own conception, was free from the seal of original sin, that is, she was holy and blameless from the first minute of her existence.

This doctrine was proclaimed as the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary on December 8, 1854 by Pope Pius IX, who established an annual holiday in honor of this event.

The Biblical justification for Mary’s virginity was contained in the Old Testament prophecy of Isaiah, which the Gospel of Matthew attributed to Mary: “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the Virgin will conceive in the womb and give birth to a Son...”

The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary should not be confused with the Immaculate Conception of Jesus Christ. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin does not state that she was conceived in a seeless manner, but emphasizes only the removal of the original sin by the Divine will from the Virgin Mary.
