Anniversary of the First Independent Government of Argentina
Description:
Argentina was a colony of Spain until the metropolis was captured by Napoleon’s army. As soon as the news reached America, the viceroy urged the Argentines to remain loyal to the Spanish crown. In response, the crowd surrounded the Buenos Aires City Council Palace and forced deputies to dismiss the viceroy and resign themselves.
From now on, the Argentine capital is ruled by a junta - the first government formed of Argentines. Nobody in those days did not suspect that independence would have to be defended with arms in the hands of 15 years and the country would face not only independence, but also great difficulties.
