Buenos Aires writer Julio Cortazar
Description:
Julio Cortazar is a great Argentine, one of the most famous and beloved Latin American writers in the world. He was born in Belgium, lived in Buenos Aires until he was 33, and then moved to Paris. Julio grew up in the suburbs of the Argentine capital, where he read the novels of Jules Verne and the stories of Edgar Poe, adored cats and suffered from an unrequited love for classmates.
In Buenos Aires, Cortazar graduated as a school teacher in literature, worked as a French and English translator, and began writing his first book. The Argentine inhabited the city with his heroes. They ride buses, subways, meet friends in cafes on the central streets, love, hate, drink mate and pass exams at the philological faculty, which Julio Cortazar himself for financial reasons could not finish. The Buenos Aires Julio Cortazar tour begins near the house where he lived with his mother and sister Ophelia.
Then we will look at the high school where the writer studied. He called it “a huge yellow shoebox.” We will go to one of the most beloved cafes of Cortazar, where the novel “Lucky” begins. Let’s see the famous “Gallery of Gyumes” from “Another Sky”. We will pass through the subway stations, captured by "pale and sad".
And we will finish our literary walk at the Palm House, where Julio Cortsar settled the heroes of his first published story.
