Walk through Recoleta Cemetery and surroundings
Description:
Recoleta, or the City of Angels, as it is called, is one of the most famous and beautiful cemeteries in the world. Visiting Buenos Aires and not reaching Recoleta is like not seeing Red Square in Moscow or the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg.
In this cemetery since the end of the XIX century buried the richest and most famous. Presidents, military, revolutionaries, lawyers, writers, poets, secular ladies. On Recoleta, as the locals like to say, lies 200 years of Argentine history. Entrance to the cemetery is free, only in the city of the dead there are no signs or signs with information, and guidebooks are limited to the most common words. It took a lot of time to prepare this author’s tour.
I read history books, novels, went to museums, watched documentaries. And now I am ready to tell about the Paraguayan War, the May Revolution, tell the story of Ukrainian anarchist emigrants and explain why Evita Peron continues to excite the minds of Argentines more than 60 years after her death.
P.S. I'll talk about local ghosts, too.
