Tigre: Argentina's dacha Venice
Description:
Only 30 kilometers from Buenos Aires is a surprisingly picturesque and unlike anything the town of Tigre, founded several centuries ago by Italian immigrants from Genoa. The Tigre is located in the delta of Argentina’s main river, the Paraná. Its most interesting attraction is the country sector, consisting of numerous summer houses, celebrity villas and hotels built on islands not connected by bridges. The impossibility of land travel gives the local way of life a unique flavor. Instead of streets and alleys - canals and ducts, instead of the usual cars, trucks and buses - boats, motorboats and kayaks.
Residents of Buenos Aires like to get out in the Tigris for the weekend. Ride on pleasure boats, arrange a picnic, a photo shoot, wander through the numerous local shops of furniture and home decor, have lunch in a restaurant overlooking the river or take children to a huge amusement park.
The journey from downtown Buenos Aires to Tigre by train takes 45 minutes. The trains are all new, clean and air-conditioned.
