Casa Rosada Government Palace
Balcarce 50, 1064 Buenos Aires, Argentina
Description:
The Palace of Government, also called Casa Rosada (Pink House), is the official working residence of the President of Argentina. It is located on the east side of the central square of Buenos Aires Plaza de Mayo. The palace is built on the place where in the XVI century was a Spanish fort. The building was repeatedly rebuilt, and only in 1898 took its current form.
The unusual pink color of the palace walls is attributed to the desire of Argentine President Domingo Sarmiento, who ruled Argentina from 1868 to 1874, to reconcile the two warring parties of Unitarians and Federalists, whose colors were white and red. There is also a version that this color of the wall was acquired due to cow blood added to the paint for durability.
The Cas Rosada Museum is of interest in the palace, where you can see many interesting exhibits showing the history of Argentina: personal belongings of the presidents, photographs, file files of old newspapers. You can also walk around the excavated and restored Fort San Miguel.
