Eva Peron Monument
Recoleta - Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina
Description:
The monument of Eva Peron is a sculptural composition in honor of one of the most controversial figures of Argentine history, the first lady of the country, the wife of the former President of Argentina Juan Peron, the spiritual leader of Argentina Maria Eva Duarte de Peron.
The monument was opened in 1999 in front of the National Library. His idea belongs to the sculptor Ricardo Gianetti. The monument is a bronze monument on a granite pedestal and depicts a slender, almost weightless female figure in which you can recognize the features of Evita Duarte de Peron. A landmark place was chosen for the monument. Previously, there was a former presidential house where Evita lived and died. This palace was destroyed by the military opposition in the year that President Peron was ousted as president of Argentina.
The monument, as well as the burial place of Maria Eva Duarte de Perón, became a kind of center of worship. During the life and after the death of Evita Peron is considered the embodiment of strength, mystery and great perseverance in achieving the goal. The combination of beauty and complex character allowed the illegitimate girl from the Argentine hinterland to turn from a detained woman into the first lady of the country. The 33 years of her life were filled with speculation and gossip about her identity, and now, decades after her death, those contradictions have not been resolved. To this day, books and films are written about Evita Duarte de Peron.
