Monument to Taras Shevchenko
Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Parque Tres de Febrero
Description:
The monument to the founder of Ukrainian literature and painting Taras Shevchenko was opened in Buenos Aires in 1971.
The monument was presented by the Ukrainian community in Argentina on the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first emigrants from Ukraine, as a sign of gratitude and for the shelter provided.
The monument to Taras Shevchenko consists of two parts: the statue of the writer and the allegorical relief. The author of the monument is the Canadian sculptor of Ukrainian origin Leonid Molodozhanina (Leo Mol).
The granite relief was performed by the Argentine sculptor Orio dal Porto. The sculpture of the writer is made of bronze and has a height of 3.45 m, installed on a pedestal of red granite, where the last lines of the poem “Stands in the village of Subbotove ...” are carved in Spanish. Nearby there is a granite relief 4.65 m long and 2.85 m high, depicting freedom fighters.
On the pedestal of the monument, the history of its discovery is also minted.
