Grotto Lourdes

Magallanes 4000, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Description:

Grouta de Lourdes in the Argentine resort town of Mar Del Plata is an exact imitation of a grotto in the ancient French city of Lourdes. According to legend, in 1858 in the grotto of Lourdes 14-year-old girl Bernadette appeared Our Lady. Copies of the Lourdes Grotto have been created in many cities around the world.

The grotto in Mar Del Plata, designed by the famous architect Luis Cossa, is built on the site of an old quarry. At the entrance to the grotto you can see the statue of the Mother of God. In the grotto there is a chapel decorated with bright stained glass windows, which depict religious scenes.

Every year, the Lourdes Grotto in Mar Del Plata is visited by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists.
