Armavir City Day (Armenia)

Description:

City of Armavir (Armenia)
The central square of the city of Armavir barely accommodated numerous guests. And the locals had to watch the holiday from the windows of their homes. But they don't complain. According to the laws of hospitality, everything is best for guests, and not only on holiday!

Katya Petrosyan is a bride from the north. She has been living in Armavir for 22 years, says her husband’s hometown is now her second home.

Katya Petrosyan, a resident of the city of Armavir: The people are very hospitable. I feel very good with them. I feel at home here.”

While the last preparations are being made at the festive tables, the official part of the event is opened by Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan. In the busy work schedule and the head of the defense Ministry Serzh Sargsyan found time to admire the city. However, not only to admire, but also to learn about the problems and achievements of Armavir today. After all, 75 years for the city, although the age, but very young.

Ruben Hlgatyan, Mayor of Armavir (Armenia): “Primary issues are social issues.” Year after year, the country's economy is feeling more and more recovery, which means that there are fewer and fewer people without work.”

The city with the same name is also in Russia. Russian Armavir was founded in 1839 by mountain Armenians. And three years ago Armavir Kuban and Armavir Armenian became sister cities.

Nikolai Plet, Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Territory from the city of Armavir (Russia): Our cities are no different. Our people are just as kind, sympathetic, hospitable. The only disadvantage may be the language barrier.”

The Russian delegation came to the anniversary with a generous gift and a proposal for cooperation.

Georgy Kanyants, Chairman of the Armenian Community of Armavir (Russia): “Culture, economic development, children’s theme and, of course, friendship are paramount.”

The city authorities believe that the further development of Armavir will contribute to the restoration of industrial and processing enterprises. Work in this direction is already underway. And perhaps Armavir will celebrate his next anniversary with a new content and in a new guise, at least the residents of the city believe in it.

Armavir (Arm. ., until 1931 - Sardarabad, until 1992 - Oktemberyan) is a city in Armenia, the population of 45,100 people. Located in the Ararat valley, at the southern sole of Mount Aragats.

Near the modern city are the ruins of ancient Armavir, the first capital of the Armenian kingdom. According to Movses Khorenatsi, the city was built by the grandson of Hayk (Gike, Hayk) Armais. Until the second century it was the capital of the rulers and kings of the Armenians.

The first reconnaissance excavations of the hill were made in 1880, but systematic excavations of Armavir began in 1962. The archaeological study of Armavir revealed the multilayered nature of the history of the city. The oldest layer belongs to the Urartian period (VIII-VII centuries BC, when King Argishti I in 776 founded Argishtikhinili on this site), followed by the ancient Armenian Hellenistic (III-II centuries BC) and medieval (X-XIII centuries) layers.
