Victory Day
Description:
Armenian soldiers served in many branches of the Red Army: in infantry, armored troops, aviation, artillery, in the navy, in border, rear and sanitary units. Among the Armenian soldiers there were both ordinary soldiers and commanders of all degrees, up to the commanders of divisions, corps and armies. Of the Armenian soldiers, 6 combined arms divisions were formed: the 76th named after K. Voroshilov (created in September 1922); the 408th, 409th, 89th, 390th and 261st. Many Armenians fought in the ranks of the 31st, 61st and 320th infantry divisions, in the 28th and 38th reserve brigades and units. The Armenian leadership staffed and supplied these military units with everything necessary.
The famous Armenian 89th Taman Division participated in the storming of the capital of the Reich with its legendary commander Nver Safaryan. From the Caucasus to Berlin, the division passed more than 7,500 km of combat route, on its account more than 9,000 killed and 11,000 captured Nazis.
May 9 is a triple holiday in Armenia.
In parallel with the victory over Nazi Germany, Armenia celebrates the day of the foundation of the national liberation army and the day of the liberation of the city of Shushi.
