How to get from Krabi to Langkawi: a guide by seasons and routes

Are you planning a trip from Krabi to Langkawi? We will tell you how to do it quickly, comfortably and without unnecessary hassle, regardless of the season. Langkawi is a paradise in Malaysia, but the way there can be different depending on the time of year. Let's work it out together!

Seasons and route options

During the high season (October to April), it is easiest to get to Langkawi. The direct ferry Tigerline Ferry runs between Krabi and Langkawi, and you can book your tickets in advance through trusted platforms like 12Go Asia. This is the most convenient and fastest way - only about 220 kilometers of the way by water.

But in the low season (from April to October) there are no direct ferries. But that doesn't mean the road is closed! You will have to take a combined route: a bus from Krabi to Satun, then a ferry from Satun to Langkawi. It takes a little longer and requires more effort, but it is quite doable.

Why would it be easier with a guide?

If you are traveling in low season, consult local guides or agencies. They will help organize transfers, buy tickets and tell you how to avoid pitfalls. For example, you can order a minivan with a transfer directly to the pier in Satun - this will save time and nerves.

Distance and travel time

The distance between Krabi and Langkawi in a straight line is about 220 kilometers. If you choose a ferry, this will be your way. But the land route includes about 270 kilometers by bus and another 40 kilometers by ferry from the port of Tammalang to Quaha on Langkawi.

Where to stay on Langkawi?

Langkawi is a tax-free island, so it is easy to find accommodation for any budget. For luxury lovers, the Four Seasons Resort is ideal - a secluded hotel with a swimming pool, mangroves and stunning views. If you are travelling sparingly, look out for SR Villa or Tokman Inn – these are cozy options with good value for money.

Tips for Traveling in the Low Season

If you are traveling from April to October, be prepared for frequent transfers. For example, you can choose a route through Hatay and Alor Setar, but it is long and tedious. We recommend a simpler option: a bus from Krabi to Satun and then a ferry to Langkawi.

Our experience.

We set out early in the morning and were in Satun by lunchtime. Because of Ramadan, the ferry had to wait until 15:00, but it gave us time to look around. The ferry took only an hour and here we are in Malaysia!

Useful advice

1. Book your tickets in advance, especially during high season.
2. In low season, contact local agencies – they will help with the organization.
3. Bring cash – not all services can be paid with a card.
4. Don’t forget to check the ferries and bus schedules – they can vary depending on the season.

Langkawi is waiting for you! With the right preparation, your trip will be an unforgettable adventure. Good luck on the way!
