Attention! How are travelers from Russia deceived?
Russian travelers traveling abroad should not relax: local scammers may try to trick tourists by using fake taxis, exchanging currency or offering hotel rooms with "faults."

The scheme of fake taxis and transportation is often found in Turkey. Egypt. Thailand. France. Italy and India.
The essence is that the taxi driver claims that he has a broken taximeter or refuses to turn it on, after which he sets the price 2-10 times higher than usual. Sometimes taxis can be unlicensed.
In Thailand. VietnamCambodia, Turkey and EgyptAttackers try to trick tourists into exchanging currency or buying goods in markets. Sellers may “error” in delivery, use an unfavorable exchange rate, or provide fake bills.
In resorts, there are often cases of fraud in hotels, when tourists are placed in rooms with “faults” and require additional payment for “repairs”. Another common scheme in hotels is a “room call”.
In the case of accommodation in the hotel, immediately after check-in may receive a call from the alleged administrator. The caller reports problems with payment of the number and offers to repeat the operation, asking to provide bank card details. As a result, all funds are written off from the account, the expert warns.

A similar scheme is used when renting transport. When returning a scooter, car or bicycle, you may be required to pay for “damages” that originally existed or were even intentionally created.
According to Permyakov, the scheme associated with “friendly locals” is also popular. You may be invited to bars or restaurants, offered something to buy, and then charged an exorbitant fee or led to “familiar” scammers.
In popular tourist destinations such as Turkey’s Antalya and the Egyptian pyramids of Giza, tourists are caught up in common scams. In Turkey, particularly in resort areas, attackers create fake Wi-Fi networks that mimic official hotspots (such as “Free Airport WiFi”) to steal personal data, including passwords and bank card information.
In Egypt, the pyramids of Giza are common schemes with “free” camel riding, which eventually turn into extortion of inflated amounts or threats to leave the tourist in the desert.
In addition, there are a number of financial frauds related to restrictions on the use of MasterCard and Visa cards for Russians abroad since 2022.
Fraudsters offer assistance in paying for goods and services or even in issuing cards, asking for a small reward. After receiving cash, “helpers” usually disappear.
