Rules of entry to Hong Kong for Russians in 2026
Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region (SAR) of the PRC with considerable autonomy.
U Hong Kong The country’s own legal system and migration rules are not the same as those in mainland China. Below we will tell you what documents tourists will need and how Russians can get to Hong Kong.
What you need for visa-free entry
A visa is not required if you are travelling for up to 14 days inclusive. This mode is suitable for tourism, transit, short-term business meetings (without employment), as well as visiting friends or relatives.
Take with you:
Passport. It must be valid for the entire duration of the stay. To reduce the risk of issues at the border, it is better that it is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
At least 1-2 blank pages in the passport: one will be needed for an entry sticker (instead of a stamp), the second should be left in reserve.
Return ticket or ticket to a third country - if you plan to transit. At the border, it can be requested, although this does not happen in every case.
Confirmation of hotel reservation in your name or invitation from the host party.
Financial means. Official confirmation of their presence is not required, but in case of questions from the officer should be ready to show cash Hong Kong dollars (HKD) or a bank card.
At the border you will be given an entry card - be sure to keep it until you leave.
When a visa is needed
The visa-free regime does not apply if the period of travel exceeds 14 days: in this case, you need to apply for a long-term visa in advance. The visa is also mandatory if the purpose of the trip is work (including remote, income-generating), study, long-term treatment or family reunification.
Important warnings
Visaran is forbidden. It is not necessary to leave Hong Kong and return immediately to “zero” the period of visa-free stay: immigration authorities track such attempts. This could result in denial of entry, fines, deportation and a ban on future visits.
There may be an interview at the border. The officer has the right to ask questions about the purpose of the trip, occupation, availability of reservations and tickets. If he has doubts, he may refuse entry without explanation.
Hong Kong has a separate immigration regime. Despite the fact that it is a special administrative region of China, from the point of view of migration control, it is an independent territory. If you arrive in Hong Kong from mainland China, it is considered to be leaving China. If you plan to return to mainland China, check your Chinese visa multiplicity in advance.
Before the trip, we recommend clarifying the current requirements - the rules can be updated. It will also be useful to keep the contacts of the local Immigration Department, which will help to understand difficult situations at the border.
