If you are in New Year’s Eve in Naples

Those who are going to spend the New Year holidays in Milan or Florence, my offer will not be appropriate. If you have already decided to go to Rome or Naples, then read on.
So, all the sights of Naples and the surrounding area are examined, excursions to Pompeii and Vesuvius are completed, the local limoncello is tasted. What else to do?
If you have a few free hours in the evening, go to Salerno. It's 60 kilometers from Naples. Getting there is easy, no guide is needed. From the Central Station every 20-30 minutes there is a train, the ticket price is 4 euros. You can also take a bus from the Central Port. The ticket, by the way, is the same.
In 45 minutes you will be in Salerno. I will talk about the city itself separately. For now, let's focus on the illumination.
The fact is that pre-Christmas illumination in Italy is relatively new. But in recent years, this spectacle has become very popular here. Streets, houses, balconies are decorated, special arches are installed. However, the crisis, as well as the “junk” problem in Naples, has negated this beauty over the past two or three years.
Not in the example of Naples clean and ambitious Salerno decided not only not to give in, but went even further! Every year, pre-holiday lights capture more and more streets, become more colorful, acquire the features of finished thematic compositions. Last year, the main theme of the electrical installations was the theme of the sea kingdom. Everywhere shone mysteriously octopuses, squid, slaves, algae and coral. One can, of course, argue about the correspondence of all this with our idea of a snowy and frosty holiday. But remember, we are in Italy!
And a couple of years ago, Salerno was decorated with fabulous raastenia, flowers, birds of paradise. All this glowed, shimmered and, naturally, attracted crowds of tourists. Remarkably, last year’s decorations are not scrapped, but placed on remote streets, thus freeing up space in the city center for new electrical experiments. Thus, Salerno becomes brighter and more festive every year before Christmas. This year, I was surprised to learn that for the grand opening of the illumination (note in brackets that this is a separate lush holiday with the invitation of honored guests, which include lights), all seats in local hotels were booked. What a surprise! It's worth it!
You got to Salerno! Go out to the station and say to the first carabinieri with the questioning intonation: “Illumination?” Be sure, you will be readily shown the direction in which you will see the main actual beauty of the city.

Over the central pedestrian zone of Salerno - Corso Umberto - hung huge glowing balls, between them - a scattering of stars and stars. This year's illumination is dedicated to planets, stars and space. In the small square of Porta Nova hangs a huge gleaming ruby Sun, and around it all over the area are planets with satellites. The square is filled with different ages of spectators with cameras in their hands. To pass by this splendor without making a dozen pictures is impossible!

We move along the narrow streets of the old city - and there is another theme: "Enchanted Garden". This is what is written at the entrance to the street. And if you go to the city park, you will see what you can use colorful lights to turn ordinary trees. Here you and glowing butterflies, and fiery palm trees, and fantastic mushrooms, and peacocks, and much more. Watching is not reconsidering!
On Saturday and Sunday it is difficult to pass because of the crowd of locals and visitors eager to see these wonders of lighting.
Well, if you have not already planned a trip to Italy, you can have time to see Salerno in all the brilliance of the Christmas illumination and later. The lights won't clear all of January and early February.
I'm telling you everything! Here are the pictures. Look for yourself!
