Herceg Novi – Botanical Garden of Montenegro

Among the numerous resorts for which Europe is famous, Herceg Novi is one of the best Montenegrin resorts, which for its abundance of sun and flowers was nicknamed the Botanical Garden.
The resort is located in the southern part of the Adriatic coast at the very entrance to the Bay of Boko-Kotorsky. The climate of Herceg Novi is typical for many resorts that abound Montenegro. The mild and warm Mediterranean air allows the swimming season to last from May to September, with the usual water temperature reaching 22-26 degrees. The history of the resort goes back many centuries. In ancient times, there were settlements on this place, and in the late 14th century, King Tvartko I of Bosnia founded Herceg Novi, giving it the status of a city. A hundred years later, the city was conquered by the Turks, who for two centuries held it in their hands. In Herceg Novi, it is interesting to trace the influence of various cultures – at one time the French, Spaniards, Russians, English and Austro-Hungarians created the cultural heritage of the city, reflected primarily in its architecture.
The most significant attraction of the resort is the Savina Monastery, which is more than 1000 years old. The monastery is made in the Baroque style and is the most beautiful on the entire Adriatic coast. The icon of Our Lady of Savin is the main relic of the monastery. Among other attractions of the city can be noted fortifications, including the famous Citadel, Spagnola, Forte Marie, Canli Kula and other bastions and citadels, as well as a local history museum and art gallery.
The vegetation of Herceg Novi is truly unique. City parks and gardens abound with plants from the tropics and subtropics, including the famous mimosa varieties, giving a special luxurious look to the cityscapes.
Inexpensive airfare will help tourists to get to Herceg Novi and to the islands of the Bay of Kotor. In the bay in the immediate vicinity of the city is the island of Mamula, where the legendary Blue Cave and the magnificent beach of Janice are surrounded by an olive grove.
Mimosa is a symbolic plant of the resort. In no corner of the world can you find as many species of mimosa as grows in Herceg Novi. Every year in late January and early February, the Mimosa Festival is held in the city. The festivities last for a whole month.
