On the shore of an artificial sea
The first street of the new city was called “Factory”. Previously, Siberian merchants gave the streets the names of Leskov, Nekrasov, Tolstoy. But the newborn city near the bridge was destined to become a city of science and production. And only perestroika briefly hampered his intellectual and business development.
One hundred and ten years ago, the first new street fenced off new buildings from the river. Since then, the city's architects have made constant attempts to "turn the city around the Ob." In recent years, with success. The waterfronts become a place for festivities. In summer, there is an amusement park, there are holidays and rock festivals, a fountain swings on the waves near the bridge - to the delight of the walking public. In winter, magical ice towns are erected on the embankment: fabulous figures, towers, slides.
The main street of the city, which begins directly from the Ob, is called “Red Avenue”. That is, “beautiful avenue”, although in Soviet times the name of the main street sounded very revolutionary. On most of the avenue, a wide carriageway is divided by a boulevard.
What to visit in Novosibirsk? To the theater, to a concert, to an exhibition, to a cafe or club. From landscape spectacles, you can advise a zoo and certainly - go to Akademgorodok. Novosibirsk will not be surprised by its architectural environment. The face of this city is people, not walls. The exception is the walls of the Opera and Ballet Theater, famous for its huge stage, high dome, lush decoration of the hall, where you feel very inappropriate, running to the ballet right from work, in jeans and shoes on a thick sole. In Novosibirsk - one of the best ballet schools in Russia, in the last five years, there are avant-garde opera productions. In December, the building of the theater is opened after reconstruction, for the sake of this event, the President of the Russian Federation came to the city.
Novosibirsk is a theater city. The old “Red Torch”, aka “Siberian Moscow Art Theater”; the young “Globe”, the former Theater of the Young Spectator; very young and already very famous and repeatedly awarded by Russian and international festivals, the small City Theater under the leadership of Sergey Afanasyev: evil tongues call it a “fashion theater”, well-wishers say that it is a “theater for the intelligentsia”. There are several theaters of lower status, there are many theater studios, there are two Novosibirsk theater festivals. "Sib-Altera", which means "another Siberia", is a festival for non-state theaters, not only Siberian. Last year, the performances of the St. Petersburg Theater "Tree" in the framework of "Sib-Altera" audience came even from St. Petersburg. After all, at home, the legendary team of Anton Adasinsky performs less often than in Novosibirsk.
The second International Christmas Festival takes place every two years in December. The festival is of a different orientation, but no less interesting, it demonstrates theatrical and musical achievements recognized by both critics and spectators. "Christmas Festival" is a benchmark, "Another Siberia" - the search for a new one. Empty seats in the auditoriums almost does not happen not only on festival days.
Novosibirsk is a musical city. The music here plays a lot of good and different, for every taste: old, jazz, classical, hit. Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Arnold Katz. An ensemble of ancient music. I can't count jazz bands. Two philharmonic halls, one of them is the former House of Political Enlightenment, the second is the former House of Lenin, built at the expense of the inhabitants of the city after the death of the leader of the world proletariat. Each resident bought a brick, and it turned out a beautiful building, elegant, cozy, with good acoustics. It has long housed the Theatre of the Young Spectator, then the Youth Theatre moved, and in a white hall with a cherry curtain now music sounds.
In Novosibirsk you can always find a couple of interesting exhibitions. And a cafe for every taste. From French or German pastry shops to Chinese restaurants and Ukrainian eateries. About fast food of various properties and do not mention. There are a lot of clubs in Novosibirsk, and also for every taste. From "fashionable" "Rock City" where the most advanced concerts are held, to clubs of youth, avant-garde, pop, "major", clubs for teenagers and older people, clubs with a reputation for respectable and vice versa. In Novosibirsk there is a place to go with friends.
And if you are a visitor and friends have not yet had time to get, then go to the zoo, you will not regret it. For a long time, the zoo in Novosibirsk huddled in a tiny area near the market, and then moved to the forest park zone. And this great thing is connected with the name of the famous man in Novosibirsk Rostislav Shilo, director of the zoo. Huge aviaries, playgrounds for young people, horseback riding, and the forest around. This zoo does not leave a painful, as often happens, but a joyful impression. Judge for yourself, it would have been bad for the animal here, would there have happened inadvertently such a piquant mesalliance between the lion and the Tirgitsa, as a result of which, for a year now, the miracle of nature - "Ligers" - has been growing in the zoo? The pride and love of Rostislav Sergeevich himself are “cats”, which cannot be counted in the Novosibirsk Zoo: except for tiger lions and a snow leopard, and a cheetah, and a jaguar, and a jaguarundi, and a panther and so on. And a lot of all sorts of wonderful little things, like thick manulas with square faces, monkeys of all stripes, phlegmatic tapir, either a small elephant or a big pig.
Well, there is no need to tell a lot about Akademgorodok, you certainly have heard about it at least once. In the sixties of the last century, when they believed that scientific and technological progress would bring happiness to mankind, another district of the forest, designed for the life and work of scientists, grew up in a coniferous forest forty kilometers from Novosibirsk. Designed in a foreign manner, with cottages (albeit with five-storey buildings too) and with numerous research institutes, the town grew up in the forest, without first cutting down the entire territory and therefore turned out to be green and cozy, and even modern skyscrapers could not hide the individuality of its appearance.
The famous Novosibirsk State University is located in Akademgorodok, so Akademgorodok is also a town of students. And finally, Akademgorodok stands on the beach. And let this sea be artificial, and from the point of view of the ecology of the region, the construction of the Ob HPP and the creation of the Ob reservoir was almost an act of vandalism: many villages were flooded, the climate changed, etc. Residents of the city are used to their "sea" in the summer on its shores - beaches, recreation centers, summer camps. On the sea there are competitions of yachtsmen, on the sea there are storms and seagulls fly over the waves. Is the artificial sea slowly becoming real?
One day, in early spring, two French actresses who came from the Mediterranean coast to Novosibirsk for a theater festival said that they liked the people here most. And the number two was ... the sea, then only opened from under the ice.
The sea under the ice is full of snow. “Siberian means skier” is a Soviet slogan. And I must say, true to life. In the vicinity of Novosibirsk there are many ski bases, which are easy to reach by urban transport. Running skis, skates and snowmobiles, mountain skis and boards - all this can be rented. What do adults and children, young people and the elderly do? If the city is even three times intellectual and theatrical, when winter is six months in a row, you will inevitably remember your childhood.
