Moscow

From Sochi to Yeisk: what can you see in the south of Russia?

All the favorite resorts of the Black Sea and Azov coast are so well-groomed by crowds of tourists that it would seem that there are no sights, natural monuments and architecture that can surprise sophisticated travelers.

However, it is only necessary to turn your eyes to the tourist map of these cities, as you will find many places, in some way even exotic for regulars of idle holidays on the coast.

Sochi

Our first stop is the city of Sochi. Being the largest resort city in Russia, Sochi recently became the successor of the Winter Olympics. From such a large-scale event there are many attractions, and it would be a mistake not to name the famous Olympic Park in the first place. There are stadiums, large competition grounds, interesting from an architectural point of view.

Also in the park there is a Museum Center, which includes the Nikola Tesla Electric Museum, the Leonardo da Vinci Mechanical Museum and the USSR Museum with the motto "Welcome to childhood!". And if this is not enough, then nostalgia for the Soviet era can be continued by visiting Sochi Automuseum, which contains a unique collection of retro cars. The most popular object in the Olympic Park, undoubtedly, is the singing fountain – a favorite place for creating memorable photos.

Arboretum

The next object must see is the Sochi Arboretum. Arboretum is a real work of botanical art, an oasis in which a huge number of plant species grow and unique animals live. 49 hectares of amazing flora and fauna from all over the world in one place of the earth – is it not a miracle? Arboretum is located in the Khostinsky district of the city, the same as the mountain peak of Akhun. From the observation deck of the summit of Greater Akhun, fascinating panoramic views open.

Gelendzhik

Let's go on, on the way to the city-resort Gelendzhik! Architecture lovers will be interested in the “Old Park” in the suburb of Gelendzhik – Kabardinka. “Old Park” was built on the idea of the architect Alexander Alekseev – to unite existing cultures, peoples, eras and nations in a single space. The park is divided into several thematic zones, each of which represents its own cultural layer of a particular era. Already at the entrance you are met by a Gothic fountain, and, for example, in the zone of Egypt you can see reduced copies of the statue of the Sphinx and the pyramid.

The park is simply full of attractions. Here you can find medieval buildings and a Roman amphitheatre, the House of the East, the Orthodox chapel and the Indian Ratha. In short, “Old Park” is an extremely non-standard architectural object, perfectly implemented in accordance with an interesting idea. A real flywheel of time for those who dream of visiting everywhere at once!

In Gelendzhik, as in Sochi, there is a corner of unique fauna. Its name is Safari Park. It is located on the Marcoth slope and the original mission of its creators has always been the rehabilitation of animals injured in certain conditions. The park has two zones: a stretch with animals and a cable car for admiring beautiful views from the height of the Markhotsky Range. Among the inhabitants of the Gelendzhik safari are bison, foxes, horses, tigers, monkeys, bears, zebras, elephants... Such diversity is unlikely to leave indifferent not only children, but also adults.

The Sail Rock

And not far from Gelendzhik, not far from the village of Praskoveevka on the shore of the black sea rises an amazing natural object - the rock "Sail". The rock received its name in honor of its similarity in shape to the ship's sail. This creation of nature is a huge slab 25 meters high and 1 meter wide, consisting of sandstone layers. Surprisingly, closer to the base of the rock in the sail is a hole with a diameter of 2 meters. There is a local legend that this trail in the rock left a cannonball during the Caucasian Wars in the 19th century.

Anapa

Further along the route is the city of Anapa. One of the famous resorts has a rich history, and you can get acquainted with it by visiting the Local History Museum and the Museum of the ancient city of Gorgippia. The doors of these museums are open to everyone who wants to learn more about the history of Anapa, but also about the history of their country.

In the Museum of Local Lore, you can trace the development of Anapa from the times when the ancient Bosporan kingdom was located on its territory, to the days when Anapa became as we know it. A separate exhibition was created for each era. The time of domination of the Greek civilization, the Turks, the Genoese, individual exhibitions of flora and fauna, the development of winemaking, the city during the wars - all this is just the tip of a huge iceberg called "the history of Anapa". A mini-course of local history will perfectly complement a visit to the Gorgippia Museum. Gorgippia is an ancient city located on the territory of Anapa in the 4th century BC. From the heritage of ancient civilization today there is a small excavated part, on the basis of which the open-air archaeological museum is located.

yeisk

The final is the city of Yeisk, whose shores are washed by the Sea of Azov. The resort city is located at the base of one of its main attractions - "Ei Spit". “Island of the Seven Winds” is also called a flat formation in the form of a semicircle. Or rather, it was before the catastrophe in the 20th century. At that time, industrial work on the extraction of natural resources was carried out here. At the site of production, a quarry was formed, which could not withstand a strong storm, and the most picturesque part of it separated from the "Eye Spit", which today is given the name "Green Island".

Part of the mainland is called “scythe” by habit, and the separated part can be reached by ferry through the strait with a length of 3 kilometers. The long plain is uninhabited, of the locals, perhaps, only a huge number of gulls will be ready to brighten up the seascape.

However, there are always a lot of tourists, so the island is uninhabited, but not deserted.
The South of Russia is beautiful and original in its culture and nature. Beyond the boundaries of sand and pebble beaches and the Broadways with souvenir shops stretching along them hides a huge historical heritage, non-trivial architectural buildings and picturesque nature. All this would not seem to be about the usual holiday on the southern coast of Russia, but it is interesting, which makes you learn the unknown and discover completely new and amazing facts about your favorite resorts.
