Mother's Day
Description:
Australia’s Mother’s Day coincides with America’s – the second Sunday in May – and is celebrated very similarly.
Australians use this day to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to their mothers. Adults give serious gifts, children give flowers and cards.
As in the United States, in Australia, it is a tradition to wear a carnation flower on this day. Colored carnation means that the human mother is alive and well, white flowers are pinned to clothes in memory of the departed mothers.
In addition to their own mothers, children thank and congratulate their grandmothers, as well as all the women who raised them and cared for them with no less love. Another great tradition of the holiday - children prepare their mothers breakfast and bring directly to bed, along with flowers and gifts.
