Brown Botanical Garden

Gardens Road NT 0820, Darwin, Australia

Description:

Not far from the business center of Darwin stretches an amazing botanical garden, named after its chief caretaker George Brown. George was a park worker for thirty years and became mayor of Darwin in 1990.

The total area of the Botanical Garden exceeds 40 hectares. The history of the garden begins back in 1866, when the first settlers of Darwin began to use the current territory of the garden as plantations for crops. Over time, the garden began to fill with ornamental plants. Unfortunately, in 1974, a powerful hurricane struck Darwin, which almost completely destroyed the Botanical Garden. The recovery took several years.

Today in Brown Botanical Garden you can see mangrove and tropical trees, the flora of the moist forests of Tiwi Island and much more.
