Purnululu National Park

Description:

Established in 1987, Purnululu National Park is located in Western Australia. This place is unique in nature, unusual relief, rare flora and fauna, amazing views contributed to the fact that the park came under the protection of UNESCO.

This park is especially interesting because the relief of the territory is represented by 4 main ecosystems: sandy plains, limestone cliffs, grassy plain of the Ord River and the main attraction - the Bangl Bangl mountain range. The latter is an extraordinary phenomenon, which from the outside resembles an amazing wild stone city: these are mountain cones with a striped structure, based on blue-green algae and cyanobacteria. These cones look extremely unusual: sandstone with alternating black-gray-orange stripes. 250 million years ago, a meteorite fell on this place, as a result of which the territory began to rise and as a result took a modern look.

The peculiarity of this park is also that it is located between areas of arid desert climate and monsoon savanna climate, which contributes to favorable conditions for plant and animal habitats belonging to different ecosystems.

In addition to the interesting nature, the park is distinguished by the fact that it has its own cultural significance for the indigenous people: rock paintings and ancient burials have been preserved here.
