Museum of Old and New Art
651-655 Main Rd, Berriedale TAS 7011, Australia
About the company:
The Amazing Museum of Old and New Art is not for everyone. Its creator called it “a provocative Disneyland for adults.”
The museum is based on the private collection of millionaire David Walsham, which he collected for more than 20 years and which was spent a lot of money. But if at first Walsham was interested in mosaics of ancient Rome and Greek sarcophagi, his latest acquisitions were the works of modern artists.
New art should be shown in a new way - so decided the owner of the collection and lowered the exhibition hall underground four floors. An unprepared viewer could easily get lost in the endless dark corridors, but at the entrance he will be provided with a special device that will allow you to freely navigate.
The installations you can see are clearly on the verge of foul. For example, the gastrointestinal machine of the Belgian Wim Delvoy: food is loaded into it, and the output is obtained. You know what. And all this is accompanied by appropriate smells. Or a cushioned chair where you are asked to euthanasia yourself. There are, of course, more harmless exhibits, but they are not always clear to the unprepared viewer.
The undoubted advantage of the museum is free access. And, to the credit of the organizers of the exhibition, it should be noted that especially controversial installations will be marked on your electronic conductor with the inscription “Not recommended under 15 years”.
