Port Jackson Bay

Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia

Description:

Port Jackson Bay is the largest natural bay in the world. It is believed that it was discovered by James Cook in 1770. It was home to the first Australian colony to sail from Europe.

Port Jackson Bay is divided into Sydney, Middle and North Bay. In 1932, the famous Harbour Bridge was thrown through Sydney Bay. Ten years later, in 1942, the bay was filled with various buildings designed to protect Sydney from Japanese submarines. Since 1975, the bay has been Sydney Harbor National Park.

Today, dozens of ferries circulate in Port Jackson Bay, carrying up to one hundred thousand passengers a day. Every year there is a large-scale New Year show with powerful fireworks.
