William Ricketts Reserve
William Ricketts Reserve, Mount Dandenong Victoria 3767, Australia
Description:
William Ricketts Reserve is an incredibly beautiful and picturesque place. William created it when he was about 33 years old and called it the Potter's Sanctuary. This sanctuary occupies an area of 4 acres near Mount Dandenong in Australia. William Ricketts was an Australian potter and sculptor. Noticing this place in 1930, he built a hut and stayed there.
Impressed by the life of the Aborigines with their culture, life and unity with nature, in 1943 he began to create sculptures of the indigenous people of Australia on the territory of his estate. His unusual works opened the eyes of Australians to the beauty and essence of the treasure trove of wildlife.
This open-air exhibition includes 92 sculptures, some of them made of wood and some of ceramics. This place helps to understand the essence of the spiritual component of art.
Hidden in the depths of the rainforest, an exposition of Aboriginal statues seems to be an integral part of the natural habitat surrounding it. Shrouded in moss, the torsos of men, women and children grow directly from tree trunks and huge boulders, all symbols of the relationship of the indigenous people of Australia with nature.
