Vaucluse Manor
48 Olola Ave, Sydney NSW 2030, Australia
Description:
Vaucluse Manor is one of the few buildings of the 19th century that has retained its original appearance. It is listed as a national treasure of the state of New South Wales and is located in the suburban area of Sydney of the same name, which was named after the estate.
The estate is a neo-Gothic building built by Sir Henry Brown Hayes. In 1802 he was exiled to New South Wales for kidnapping the daughter of an Irish banker. A fan of the poet Francesco Petrarch, Hayes named his possession after his "Fountain of Vaucluse."
Today it is a house-museum, which has a whole recreation park in its possession. Inside the building, the original interior is recreated, where you can see many works of art and furniture brought from England by the subsequent owner of the estate - William Charles Wentworth.
