Bols Pyramid Island
Description:
Just off the coast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean is the stunningly beautiful volcanic island of Bols Pyramid. It is located 20 kilometers southeast of Lord Howe and has a very modest size. However, it is visible even from the coast, because the island is a solid vertical rock that rises from the water surface to a height of 562 meters.
The first man landed on the island in 1882. Geologist Henry Wilkinson had to work hard just to walk through the Bols Pyramid. The island is a volcanic cliff resembling a sail, and without special equipment to conquer it is almost impossible. In 1982, climbing to the top of the island was officially banned as well as visiting the Bols Pyramid. The ban was only lifted in 1990, when the island was relaxed. But even today, the permission of the relevant minister is required to land on the island.
