Jewish Museum
Unterbergstrasse 6, Eisenstadt, Austria
About the company:
The Jewish Museum in Eisenstadt is located in the Wertheimer House, which belonged to a famous Hungarian rabbi. The museum was opened in 1972 on a large square and is divided into a number of exhibition halls. On the 1st floor of the museum there is a synagogue, one of the few unaffected by the Jewish pogroms in 1938.
The museum offers historical information about the history of Jewish settlers in Burgenland. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by the memorial hall, which was created in memory of the seven communities of Jews of Burgenland.
Currently, the museum houses a library containing about 10 thousand volumes. These are mainly books of the XVIII century. The library also has a significant collection of facsimile publications.
