Rappotenstein Castle

Rappottenstein 85 A, Zwettl, Australia

Description:

Rappotenstein Castle is located in the city of the same name, in lower Austria. Built in the XII century and is an example of the style of "Gothic" and "Baroque", as well as Romanesque architecture. It was built by the Kuenring clan with a very clear purpose - repelling enemy attacks. Rappotenstein Castle was part of a defensive system, a series of castles that protected the western borders of the country from sudden attack.

Initially, the fortress was a very simple but effective defensive structure. However, over time, it was significantly transformed and expanded, and by the XVI century there were 5 courtyards and 7 entrance gates. Now the castle belongs to representatives of the count family Abensperg-Trown, whose ancestors bought it back in 1664.

Rappotenstein Castle is, in some ways, unique because, despite all attempts to capture it, no one succeeded. The efforts of the local peasants to besiege the fortress were not crowned with success, attempts to invade foreign conquerors were also unsuccessful. But an even more important fact is that the castle has survived to the present day in a perfectly preserved, almost pristine condition.
