Area of bell ringing
Description:
If you manage to visit the beautiful town of Graz, then be sure to visit one of its main attractions - the square of bell ringing. Until the twentieth century, it was called Fligenplatz. It owes its present name to Gottfried Maurer, a wine merchant who in 1884 bought a complex of buildings here for his own house and a wine shop.
Visiting Belgium and northern Germany, Gottfried Maurer brought various bells, which he installed in his apartment building, in 1903 there were about 24. They first broke in 1905 on Christmas Eve. In addition to the bells, the winemaker installed a small clock tower called Glockenspiel, which is still located on the square.
To listen and see how the structure works, you should visit the square at 11:00, 15:00 or 18:00. It is at this time that two window flaps open in it, and two small wooden figures appear, which rotate to the bell ringing. This beautiful couple has been on the scene for about 100 years.
